Angus Samuels has over 30 years’ experience in the investment industry. Angus started his career in South Africa as a stockbroker and was a partner in Fergusson Bros, Hall Stewart & Co before emigrating to the UK in 1986. He is currently chairman of Punter Southall Group, a UK-based financial services group with over 850 employees.

David Ferguson

Born and bred in Edinburgh and a technology geeky from a very early age, the formative years of David’s career were spent as a trainee actuary with Life Association of Scotland, Ivory & Sime, Scottish Life International and strategic consultancy The Abacus.

In 1998, David concluded that the industry was more 1980s than 2020s and embarked on a mission to create the UK’s first genuinely collaborative platform.

David lives with his sparkling wife Monique, precious children Nicole and Angus, and enjoys live music and following the mighty-ish Heart of Midlothian FC.

Jeremy Gibson

Jeremy joined Sanlam UK in September 2012 and was subsequently appointed to the boards of Sanlam UK, Sanlam Investments and Pensions and Sanlam Wealth Planning as Finance director. A qualified chartered accountant, Jeremy qualified in South Africa before moving to the UK in 1996 and has since worked in a broad range of financial services organisations.

John joined the board of Nucleus Financial Group in April 2017. He focuses predominantly on the provision of technology and advice to the insurance, banking and financial services industries. He co-founded and is chairman of technology platform Certua and the Quanis Group of companies, which provides business technology solutions for the insurance industry.

Jonathan Polin

Jonathan became a director in July 2016. He is also group chief executive officer of Sanlam UK, which he joined in 2015, and is responsible for the development and

delivery of UK group strategy. Before joining Sanlam, he was group chief executive of Ashcourt Rowan plc where he transformed the business from a loss-making entity with a market cap of £22 million to a business worth £129 million. Prior to this he was sales and marketing director at Ignis Asset Management. 

Jonathan began his financial services career with Prudential in 1992, having spent the previous 12 years in the Army. In 1994 Jonathan took up the position of managing director UK, European and Middle Eastern sales at Aberdeen Asset Management.

Mike Seddon

Mike started his financial services career in 1986 as a ‘man from the Pru’ before moving on to a major UK life office. In 2003, Mike teamed up with Grayside Financial Services and is now their managing director and a major shareholder.

In 2012, he achieved Chartered Financial Planner status, which led to Grayside obtaining Chartered Financial Planners status.

Mike has been married to Debbie for 26 years and outside of work is a keen (but poor) golfer.

Stephen is chairman and managing director of The Fry Group.

He joined Fry’s in 1995 as a financial planner and became director of the UK Division in 2004. Prior to this he specialised in tax and pension based planning within the accountancy profession having begun his career with HM Revenue and Customs.

Stuart joined Nucleus as managing director in October 2012, having previously worked for Sanlam in the UK since 2005, where he was finance director of Sanlam UK Ltd and served as a board member and audit and risk committee chairman of most of the Sanlam Group’s interests in the UK. Stuart was born and raised in South Africa, and now lives in Edinburgh with his wife and three children.

This is made up of nine adviser firms whose role is to counsel and advise the business in its strategic direction. This helps the business to remain focused on the areas that really matter to our audience.

Arch Financial is an award-winning company, providing independent financial advice and personal financial planning. Advisory board member Arthur Childs is director, a certified financial planner and a chartered financial planner and holds fellowships of the Chartered Insurance Institute, the Personal Finance Society and the Pensions Management Institute.

Asset management are based in Southampton and offer everything from wealth management to health insurance, mortgages, pensions, savings and investments.

Estate Capital are chartered and independent financial advisers, providing financial advice and wealth management services in Swansea. Advisory board member Chris Davies is the managing director, having founded the firm in 2003. Chris leads the investment team and takes responsibility for the research, selection, and performance of eight in house investment portfolios.

The Fry Group specialises in tax and financial planning for UK residents and expatriates. They have offices in the UK, Hong Kong, Singapore, Belgium and Spain. Advisory board member Stephen Tucker is chairman and managing director. He’s also a member of the Nucleus board.



Grayside has been helping clients navigate complex financial markets for over 40 years. Managing director Mike Seddon is both a member of the Nucleus board and advisory board member. In 2012, he achieved Chartered Financial Planner status, which led to Grayside obtaining Chartered Financial Planners status.



Based in York, HKA’s services include wealth management, pensions, investments and mortgages. Advisory board member David Booth has over 30 years’ experience dealing with investment and pension opportunities for clients. David jointly formed HKAFS Ltd during 2003.

SAM are based in Glasgow and take pride in treating their clients as individuals. Advisory board member Derek Stewart is managing director/partner. He keeps fit by taking part in Ironman events and running ultra marathons while raising money for Maggie’s Centres where he also serves on the local board.

Independent financial advisors and insurance brokers Smith and Pinching are based in Norwich. Advisory board member John Simpson joined S&P after working as regional manager for Clerical Medical Investment Group. In his spare time, John enjoys attending gigs.
